Stock C8 Corvette Z06 Hangs With Far More Powerful Charger Hellcat Redeye Jailbreak

This C8 Corvette Z06 makes for the perfect opponent in this thrilling series of drag races with a Charger Hellcat Redeye Jailbreak.

By now, everyone is acutely aware that while the C8 Corvette Z06 is designed to carve up tracks that require one to turn left and right as well as go fast in a straight line, the same model is also quite competent at the drag strip as well. We are talking about a car that’s easily capable of cracking into the 10-second range in the quarter-mile, after all, which is quite quick by anyone’s standards. However, we didn’t exactly expect the C8 Corvette Z06 to hang with the far more powerful Dodge Charger Hellcat Redeye Jailbreak at the track, but that’s precisely what happened recently, as we can see in this video from YouTuber Dr. Horsepower.

The purveyor of this particular channel just so happens to own a 2023 Dodge Charger Hellcat Redeye Jailbreak that he’s been drag racing quite a bit lately, and having some great success with as well. On this particular day, he has come across a brand new C8 Corvette Z06 that’s a 2024 model and completely stock, which should make for an interesting matchup – especially since the Z06 is a convertible, which adds a bit of weight to even things out.

We say that because the C8 Corvette Z06 convertible tips the scales at just over 3,700 pounds, which sounds like a lot until we consider that its Mopar rival here weighs a hefty 4,500 pounds. However, we must also consider the matter of power, and in that case, the special variant of this Charger has plenty of that. The discontinued muscle car’s supercharged 6.2-liter V8 churns out right at 800 horsepower, in fact, which is quite bit more than the Z06’s naturally-aspirated 5.5-liter LT6 V8 and its 670 ponies.

None of that matters in the first of three races between these two cars, as the Z06 catches Dr Horsepower sleeping at the line and takes off, coming home with a win in spite of the fact that the Corvette actually ran a slower 10.8-second ET compared to the Charger’s 10.6. Round two sees both cars get off the line around the same time – resulting in a photo finish of sorts – and this time, the Charger only wins by a mere tenth of a second – 10.6 again, compared to a 10.7 for the Z06.

This sets us up for a rather epic third race to see if the C8 Corvette Z06 can edge out the more powerful Charger, and once again, the Corvette driver wins off the line. Once again, the Charger also runs another 10.6 compared to the Corvette’s 10.7, though as was previously the case, the Z06 technically takes home the win thanks to its superior launch. It’s a pretty fascinating result by any measure, and one that yet again proves the newest Corvette Z06 is more than capable of holding its own at the drag strip – not just tracks with corners.
