C7 Corvette ZR1 Breaks Through the 8-Second Barrier

Advanced Modern Performance made this Corvette ZR1 the quickest and most powerful in the world.

The engine computer system of the new LT5 V8 in the C7 Corvette ZR1 was finally unlocked last month, allowing shops around the country to pile on gobs more power. Advanced Modern Performance (AMP) is on the leading edge of the LT5 tuning race, building a black C7 ZR1 that laid down over 1,100 wheel horsepower and over 950 wheel torque, making this the most powerful LT5-powered car in the world.

When they got it to the track, it set another record while smashing a key barrier in the modern street car world.

Corvette ZR1 Record Run

The AMP ZR1 is equipped with the stock automatic transmission and the stock differential while the LT5 V8 has been upgraded inside and out.We spoke with a representative from AMP and got a complete list of modifications made to the engine, including an AMP 5 inch air intake, a 103mm throttle body, a ported LT5 blower, ported LT5 cylinder heads, a custom camshaft, ARP hardware, larger injectors, an auxiliary fuel pump, methanol injection, two-inch heads, upper and lower overdrive pullies, an AMP custom trunk-mounted ice box and a good custom tune.

The only other “upgrades” are the aftermarket wheels with sticky rear tires, helping the C7 put all of that power to the ground and based on the numbers, it puts the power down very well. Mind you, this car still has the extreme aero package, which definitely adds some drag on the top end of the track, but it still managed to be the first new ZR1 to run in the 8s.

Corvette ZR1 First 8s

As you can see in the video above from the Advanced Modern Performance YouTube channel, this built Corvette ZR1 leaves the starting line like a bullet, pulling a stunning 1.30 60-foot time as it roars down the quarter mile. It stops the timers with an 8.867 at 154.69 miles per hour, becoming the first new ZR1 in the 8s and the quickest new ZR1 in the world.

Later that night, the 1,100-horsepower Corvette backed up that number and reset the record, running an 8.811 at 155.61 miles per hour.

Now that the LT5 computer is unlocked, we are bound to see more crazy-quick Corvette ZR1s with monster power, but for the time being, this AMP-built C7 is the strongest and quickest in the world.
