UPDATE: Custom 2023 Corvette Z06 and Matching NFT Fail to Sell After No Bids

GM’s first NFT and a corresponding custom 2023 Corvette Z06 are set to hit the auction block as true one-of-one creations.

UPDATE: Earlier this month, GM set out to create some more buzz surrounding the 2023 Corvette Z06 (and help a charity) by auctioning off a 1-of-1 Z06 along with a matching NFT. But the auction failed to attract a single bidder. Yep, zero. At a time when the markets are down and cryptocurrencies are evaporating (cough, scams, cough), this isn’t a huge surprise. On the other hand, you’d think someone would jump at the chance to own a 1-of-1 Z06 regardless of the artwork attached.

Here’s what GM’s Trevor Thompkins said to Carscoopsabout the endeavor —

“Our first step into Web3 has been educational, and we will continue to explore ways to leverage technology to benefit our customers,” Thompkins said. “The ‘Own the Color’ project has enabled us to establish relationships and learn from leaders in the space, such as xsullo, SuperRare and The Crypt Gallery on how to authentically approach the passionate NFT community. We’ll take what we’ve learned and apply it to future projects.”

ORIGINAL ARTICLE: 2023 Corvette Z06 deliveries haven’t yet begun, though the high-performance variant‘s launch is imminent. However, General Motors certainly isn’t resting on its laurels by conjuring up cool stuff to complement the arrival of the latest Z06. The latest example of this is this custom 2023 Corvette Z06 that’s been painted to match the first-ever non-fungible token (NFT) version of the C8 Z06, created by an artist who goes by xsullo.

“I’ve been wanting to combine my digital art with the physical world, so it’s been a great opportunity to work with Chevrolet to bridge these two worlds,” xsullo said. “The Corvette Z06 is an ambitious car that I totally vibe with. I’m drawn to how technology  can make us feel, and I can tell the designers of Corvette Z06 draw from similar  inspiration.”

The custom 2023 Corvette Z06 will be sold at an upcoming “Own the Color” auction hosted by SuperRare alongside its NFT counterpart, which is dubbed “Minted Green,” a reference to the NFT craze itself and the color that adorns both. All proceeds from the auction – which takes place June 20-24 – will go to DonorsChoose, a charitable organization that seeks to help equip teachers with the tools they need to teach the next generation effectively.

Minted Green Z06 -- Own the Color

What’s particularly notable about the real-life version of the Minted Green 2023 Corvette Z06 is that GM will never apply that particular color to another one, making it a true one-of-one. The digital version and the physical car – which is equipped with the Z07 package – will also come with all the documentation one might expect, including a certificate of authenticity, digital certificate of ownership, commemorative plaque, and option code “RFN.” The VIN for the Corvette itself is inspired by binary code, to boot.

While this is GM’s first NFT, the automaker has already completed two auctions for the new Z06 that raised a combined $4.6 million for other non-profits. This particular auction will help the company further its efforts to provide STEM education for all, but the general public will also get to enjoy the Z06 artwork in the flesh for a time as well. “Own the Color” will be on display at The Crypt Gallery during NFT NYC, one of the biggest NFT events of the year, at Dream Hotel Downtown in New York City, while Chevrolet and SuperRare will also cohost a Twitter Spaces on June 20.
