C7 Corvette ZR1 crash

This C7 Corvette ZR1 driver discovered the hard way that you should never listen to the crowd when they want to see you floor it.

These days, the C7 Corvette ZR1 has become an incredibly pricey collectible, a truly special car that folks are just waking up to, it seems. We certainly can’t blame them, given the fact that the C8 is such a special car in its own right, but who wouldn’t want to own the ultimate – and final – example of the front-engine Corvette? With prices skyrocketing as of late, most C7 Corvette ZR1 examples are being stored away in climate-controlled garages, plastic still attached to the seats, with few miles on the clock, just waiting to emerge at auction one day. Thus, we appreciate when we see someone driving one of these cars, just not the way this one exited a recent cars and coffee gathering in Orlando, Florida.

We certainly understand the appeal of having a 755 horsepower, supercharged V8 at your disposal, but powerful tools like the C7 Corvette ZR1 require skillful drivers behind the wheel, or disaster can strike rather quickly. That was the case here, as we can see in this video posted on Instagram by zr1_m7, as the Sebring Orange beauty is apparently leaving the local event when a nearby spectator yelled “get it, bud!” As we all know, following the advice of the crowd doesn’t usually end well, and that’s also the case here.

Eager to oblige, the ZR1 driver gives it the beans, drifts a little bit to the left, but then, the car cuts hard to the right, sending it directly into the median. A curb seemingly does the most damage, however, smashing up the car’s aftermarket wheels and its front fascia, along with who knows what underneath. As one might imagine, this was accompanied by some crude language, so you might want to leave it on mute if you don’t like that sort of thing.

This is the type of ridiculous act that we’re used to seeing from Mustang drivers, but certainly not those that own Corvettes – let alone a rare, super-expensive model like the ZR1, which in this case is also fitted with the ZTK package, making it hurt even more. Thus, if you find yourself shopping for one in the future, it might behoove you to do an extensive check and make sure that it isn’t this one, possibly sporting some dicey repairs.

UPDATE: Here’s a second angle.
